"A Thank You to Black Feminism" by Grayce Walker (they/he)

In thinking about my journey to identifying as non-binary, I always know that my reading of Toni Cade Bambara's essay "On the Issue of Roles" was a pivotal moment for me. It expanded my own sense of knowing that was something was different in terms of my gender identity into a political assertion of being opposition to all things steeped in white supremacy. I think eventually I will no longer ID as non-binary because there is a way in which there are still particular assumptions of what that means and who that looks like and even in the language still centering what I'm trying to get away from, but for now it fits and it works and I'm grateful to have arrived at this place.
